Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about Locki — for individuals and teams.

Do I need an account to use Locki?
For personal use, no account is required — install the extension and start encrypting instantly. For team features (shared keys, admin dashboard, audit logs), you'll need an organization account. Start a 14-day free trial with no credit card required.
What kind of data can I protect?
Any text-based content — passwords, API keys, personal notes, emails, project details, or confidential communication. If it's text in a browser, you can encrypt it with one click.
How does encryption work?
Locki uses AES-256-GCM — the same standard used by banks and governments. Encryption happens entirely in your browser. Only encrypted ciphertext ever leaves your device.
Can others decrypt my messages?
Only people who have the same encryption key can decrypt a message. Org keys are distributed by admins through the dashboard. Without the correct key, no one — not even Locki — can access your data.
Does Locki work in apps like Slack, Jira, or Gmail?
Yes — in their web versions. Locki runs inside your browser and works seamlessly with Slack, Jira, Gmail, Google Docs, Confluence, Notion, GitHub, and virtually any other web app.
What are Locki Keys?
Locki Keys are AES-256 encryption keys that protect your data. Personal keys stay in your browser. Organization keys are managed by admins through the dashboard and synced to authorized team members automatically.
Which browsers are supported?
Locki is available for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, and all Chromium-based browsers including Edge, Opera, and Brave.
How much does Locki cost?
Personal use is free — forever. The Teams Pro plan is $42/month per organization, and includes a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. Enterprise pricing is available on request.
How secure is Locki?
All encryption happens locally in your browser using AES-256-GCM. No keys or unencrypted data are ever sent to Locki's servers. The server only stores encrypted key material — we never see, store, or transmit your secrets.
How can I get help?
For questions or support, contact us anytime at contact@lockisecurity.com. We usually respond within 24 hours.
How does team key sharing work?
Admins create and manage encryption keys in the admin dashboard. Keys are stored encrypted on our servers using AES-GCM and distributed to team members automatically when they sign in. Members never see raw key material — just the ability to encrypt and decrypt.
What is the 14-day free trial?
When you create an organization, a 14-day free trial starts automatically — no credit card required. Your team gets full access to all Teams Pro features. If you don't add a payment method, the trial simply ends and your team can continue using the free personal features without interruption.
Can I control who has access to which keys?
Yes. Admins can create groups, assign users to groups, and scope encryption keys to specific groups. This means a finance team can have keys that the engineering team never sees — and vice versa.
What do audit logs track?
Audit logs capture every security-relevant event: who encrypted or decrypted data, which key was used, when and where (web app URL), and whether the action succeeded. Logs are retained per organization and can be filtered by actor, action, or time period.
What if I lose my encryption keys?
For personal keys: if lost, any data encrypted with those keys becomes permanently inaccessible — Locki cannot recover them by design. Export key backups from the extension panel. For org keys: admins can rotate keys from the dashboard and redistribute new versions. Previous encrypted content remains accessible as long as the original key version is retained in the dashboard.
