After installing the extension, follow these steps to get started:
- Click the Locki icon in your browser toolbar to open the extension.
- Sign in to your organization account or create one to start a free trial.
- Your organization's shared keys will sync automatically to your extension.
- Open any web app with a text field, and use Locki to encrypt/decrypt inline.
- Encrypt/decrypt functions are accessible via right-click context menu.
When the encrypted text is sent
- The recipient must also have Locki installed to decrypt the message.
- They will need access to the same Locki Key used for encryption (shared via the admin dashboard).
- Without the correct key, the encrypted data remains secure and unreadable.
Best Practices
- Use descriptive names for your keys to keep them organized (e.g., "Engineering — API Secrets").
- Assign keys to specific groups in the dashboard to control access based on team roles or data sensitivity.
- Enable smart suggestion rules to automatically alert users when they type sensitive patterns without encrypting them first.
- Rotate keys periodically via the dashboard for enhanced security.
Locki Keys Explained
Locki Keys are the heart of Locki's encryption system. They securely encrypt and decrypt your data directly within web apps. Here are the key features:
Store keys securely; without them, data is inaccessible.
Share org keys with teammates via the admin dashboard — no manual sharing required.
Used by default for all new encryptions.
Change your primary key anytime without losing access to existing encrypted data.
Create multiple keys for different teams, projects, or data classifications — all managed from the dashboard.
Export keys for backup or transfer to another device.
